One of the clearest examples of the conflation of homosexual “marriage” and civil rights is Michael Gross’s article in The Advocate, in which he coins the now-popular phrase “Gay is the new black.” 1 Gross is not alone in his conflation of the two issues, however. In this sermon, Pastor Voddie Baucham introduces this topic and shows us how we have arrived at the false idea that "Gay is the new black".

It’s been repeated over and over in recent years to equate the plight of blacks in America during the Civil Rights era with the new plight of homosexuals today. While there are overlapping similarities between the two movements, sexual orientation and ethnicity are fundamentally different. Well-intentioned as McWhorter and other allies may be, "gay is the new black" not the new isn't working out.
